Designed by Brandon Architects with interiors by Denise Morrison Interiors, our Channel Place Midcentury Modern project is one of three neighboring, waterfront projects that were built by our team simultaneously in the exclusive community of Newport Island.
Each of the three homes has a unique architectural and interior design, and the goal of our Channel Place Midcentury Modern project was to create a place that embodied the best of midcentury modern design. With warm wood tones and an overall neutral palette, the home’s finished carpentry work along with its tile and stone selections give it a unique midcentury modern flair. The kitchen island was designed with rows of white oak wood planks that stack on top of each other at alternating depths for a three-dimensional finish. For the stairway, a white oak slatted wood system is used as a wall partition between the two levels as well as for the handrail system. In the living room, structural steel I-beams and perpendicular Parallam PSL beams are wrapped in wood with a tongue-and-groove ceiling treatment in between to provide another one-of-a-kind finished carpentry design. Found throughout the home are walnut interior doors true to midcentury modern design and white oak hardwood floors.
For the exterior, brick veneer with a whitewash finish and Hardie Plank siding were used, along with two living walls to incorporate the plant life that is true to the design’s style as well. A cantilevered roof with painted beams completely opens the master balcony to its waterfront view on with glass handrails to maximize the view. The property comes with its own private dock and has two roof decks with ocean and channel views.
